Grade 2
Content Standard 1: Students
will demonstrate evidence of their membership in a community of Faith.
Student Performance Standards -
Students will demonstrate:
- An attitude of respect for the
dignity of each individual
- God made all of his creation
very good (299). Genesis 1:31
- Knowledge and practice of Gospel
values
- The Bible tells us about our
Father who is in heaven and who comes to meet his children and speaks
with them (104). 1 Thes:2:13
- Participation in prayer experiences,
community service projects and spiritual formation activities
- The three major expressions
of prayer are vocal prayer, meditation, and contemplative prayer (2721)

- Talents and gifts are not
distributed equally, hence God's plan that we need one another (1934).
Mt 25:25-30
- Forming one's conscience helps
a person know right from wrong (1776)
- An understanding and practice
of evangelization
- "Go
therefore and make disciples of all nations" Mt 28:19-20
Content Standard 2: Students
will demonstrate evidence of regular and frequent prayer and participation in
liturgical celebrations.
Student Performance Standards -
Students will demonstrate:
- Participation in traditional
Catholic devotions, including daily prayer
- God is always present to us,
especially in liturgical celebrations, the Sacraments, his word, and in
prayer and song (1088). Mt 18:20
- Membership in a worshiping community
- The church is both the people
of God and the body of Christ (777) Eph 1:22-23
- Understanding of the liturgical
year
- The liturgical year celebrates
the various parts of the paschal mystery (1171)
- Knowledge and understanding of
the sacraments
- Jesus shared his life with
others when he lived on earth, and today he Shares his life with us in
the sacraments (1115-1116). Luke 5:17
- Recent celebration of the Eucharist
- In the Eucharist, Jesus stays
in our midst as the one who loves us and offered himself up completely
for us (1380). Jn 13:1
Content Standard 3: Students
will demonstrate knowledge and understanding of the Catholic Christian message.

Students will:
- Meet the School-wide Learning
Expectations, which reflect the school's mission and philosophy
Content Standard 4: Students
will give evidence of personal spiritual formation.
Student Performance Standards -
Students will demonstrate:
- A clear understanding of Catholic
identity
- God made us to know, love,
and serve him (1721). 2 Pt 1:4
- A practice of the Faith in their
daily lives at school, home, and in the community
- Through baptism, confirmation,
and Eucharist every Christian is called to holiness (1533). Col 3:12-15
Content Standard 5: Students
will participate in service projects, which reflect application of the principles
of their Faith.
Student Performance Standards -
Students will demonstrate:
- An understanding that the purpose
of service is a call to discipleship
- The Church, urged by the spirit
of Christ, must walk the road of service and self sacrifice that Christ
himself walked (852)
- Reflection upon experiences of
service
- It is the duty of citizens
to contribute to the good of society (2239). 1 Pet 2:13,16
- An understanding that service
is of Catholic action within the community
- The Church's social teaching
gives guidelines for action (2423-2424).
Content Standard 6: Students
will demonstrate acceptance of the challenge to address contemporary issues
from a Gospel perspective and from the documents, which form the Church's social
teaching.
Student Performance Standards -
Students will demonstrate:
- Recognition and celebration of
cultural differences within the school community
- The liturgy can be celebrated
in various forms in order to express different cultures (1200-1209)
- A compassionate response to misfortunes
of others
- Love of neighbor cannot be
separated from love for God (1878-1880). 1Jn 4:20-21
- Knowledge and understanding of
the social justice teachings of the Church
- We must develop a sense of
wonder, awe, joy and reverence for the earth and all God's creatures in
order to act justly. Gen 1-11
- A spirit of reconciliation and
commitment to conflict resolution
- The Ten Commandments tell
us what is expected in order for us to love God and to love or neighbor
(2067). Mt 19:16-19
- Examination of various ministries
within the Church
- Lay people are called to be
witnesses to Christ in all circumstances and at the very heart of the
community of mankind (942)
- Living in a socially responsible
way
- Attend to the poor, proclaim
liberty to captives, empower the blind to see, defeat oppression. Luke
4:18
- Sensitivity to the needs of the
poor and marginalized
- Jesus calls upon his followers
to imitate him in giving fully of their time and energy to care for the
needy Mark 6:30-37
