Grade 3
Content Standard 1: Students
will demonstrate evidence of their membership in a community of Faith.
Student Performance Standards -
Students will demonstrate:
- An attitude of respect for the
dignity of each individual
- All human life is sacred (2258).

- Knowledge and practice of Gospel
values
- We learn to form our conscience
through God's laws, through church teachings, and through sacred Scripture
(1783-1785). Ps 119:105
- Participation in prayer experiences,
community service projects and spiritual formation activities
- Christian prayer is the action
of God and humanity (2564).
- The works of mercy are acts
of charity that help our brothers and sisters in their bodily and spiritual
needs (2447). Heb 13:3
- All Christians share in God's
own nature and are called to lead a life worthy of the Gospel (1692).

- An understanding and practice
of evangelization
- The mission of Christian communities
is to invite all people to share in the communal love of the Father and
the Son and the Holy Spirit (850). Mt 28:18-20
Content Standard 2: Students
will demonstrate evidence of regular and frequent prayer and participation in
liturgical celebrations.
Student Performance Standards -
Students will demonstrate:
- Participation in traditional
Catholic devotions, including daily prayer
- The Christian life and our
prayer life are inseparably linked, for they both proceed from God's love
(2745). Jn 15:16-17
- Membership in a worshiping community
- The church is both the people
of God and the body of Christ (777). Eph 1:22-23
- We adore God in the person
of Jesus (525-526). Luke 2:8-20
- Understanding of the liturgical
year
- The many aspects of the paschal
mystery unfold throughout the liturgical year (117). Luke 4:19
- Knowledge and understanding of
the sacraments
- The sacraments are called
"sacraments of faith: because they not only require faith but they
also deepen faith (1122-1126). Rom 5:1-5
- Recent celebration of the Eucharist
- We participate fully in the
church through Eucharist, which is the wellspring and high point of our
faith life (1324-1327). 1 Cor 15:28
Content Standard 3: Students
will demonstrate knowledge and understanding of the Catholic Christian message.

will give evidence of personal spiritual formation.

Students will demonstrate:
- A clear understanding of Catholic
identity
- The meaning of the word "catholic"
is universal (830) Mt 28:19-20
- A practice of the Faith in their
daily lives at school, home, and in the community
- The mission of Christian communities
is to invite all people to share in the communal love of the Father and
the Son and the Holy Spirit (850). Mt 28:18-20
Content Standard 5: Students
will participate in service projects, which reflect application of the principles
of their Faith.
Student Performance Standards -
Students will demonstrate:
- An understanding that the purpose
of service is a call to discipleship
- Christians are called to continue
the mission of Jesus (863). Jn 13:12-16
- Reflection upon experiences of
service
- The apostles continue Jesus'
mission given him by the Father (858). Mk 3:13-18
- An understanding that service
is of Catholic action within the community
- The church, as the body of
Christ and the temple of the Holy Spirit, fulfills the mission of Christ
and the Holy Spirit (737). Eph 4:3-5
Content Standard 6: Students
will demonstrate acceptance of the challenge to address contemporary issues
from a Gospel perspective and from the documents, which form the Church's social
teaching.
Student Performance Standards -
Students will demonstrate:
- Recognition and celebration of
cultural differences within the school community
- The liturgy can be celebrated
in various forms in order to express different cultures (1200-1209)
- A compassionate response to misfortunes
of others
- The works of mercy are acts
of charity that help our brothers and sisters in their bodily and spiritual
needs (2447). Heb 13:3
- Knowledge and understanding of
the social justice teachings of the Church
- Blessed are those who hunger
and thirst for justice. Mt 5:6
- A spirit of reconciliation and
commitment to conflict resolution
- The Ten Commandments express
our basic responsibilities toward God and toward neighbor (2072). Ex 20:1-17
- Examination of various ministries
within the Church
- Lay people are called to be
witnesses to Christ in all circumstances and at the very heart of the
community of mankind (942)
- Living in a socially responsible
way
- We are called to exercise
our free will be making good and moral choices (1731-1734). Rom 6:17
- Sensitivity to the needs of the
poor and marginalized
- Our response to the needs
of the poor will be the basis of Jesus' recognition of us as his chosen
ones (2443). Mt 25:31-36
