Religion Curriculum Standards

Grade 4
Content Standard 1: Students
will demonstrate evidence of their membership in a community of Faith.
Student Performance Standards -
Students will demonstrate:
- An attitude of respect for the
dignity of each individual
- Respect for the dignity of
the human person requires respect for the rights that come from one's
dignity as a creature (1930). Mt 25:40
- Knowledge and practice of Gospel
values
- We learn to form our conscience
through God's laws, through church teachings, and through sacred Scripture
(1783-1785). Ps 119:105
- Participation in prayer experiences,
community service projects and spiritual formation activities
- There are different types
of prayer: blessing and adoration, petition, thanksgiving, intercession,
and praise (2626-2642). Ps 62:2-9
- Love of neighbor can never
be separated from the love of God (1878) Luke 10:29-37
- An informed conscience makes
judgments according to reason and conforms with what is the true good.
Everyone is responsible to use every available means to form his or her
conscience well (1798)
.
- An understanding and practice
of evangelization
- The church is a community
of loving disciples called to transform the World according to the mind
and heart of Jesus Christ (425). Phil 2:1-11
Content Standard 2: Students
will demonstrate evidence of regular and frequent prayer and participation in
liturgical celebrations.
Student Performance Standards - Students
will demonstrate:
- Participation in traditional
Catholic devotions, including daily prayer
- The precepts of the church
are laid within the foundation of our moral life and are tied to and nourished
by participation in the liturgical life of the church (2041-2043)
- Membership in a worshiping community
- The first followers of Jesus
formed the early church as Christian Communities (767-768). Acts 4:32-37
- Understanding of the liturgical
year
- The many aspects of the paschal
mystery unfold throughout the liturgical year (117). Luke 4:19
- Knowledge and understanding of
the sacraments
- There are seven sacraments,
all instituted by Christ (1114). John 3:5
- Recent celebration of the Eucharist
- In the Eucharist we find the
expression of all forms of prayer (2643). Mal 1:11
Content Standard 3: Students
will demonstrate knowledge and understanding of the Catholic Christian message.

Students will:
- Meet the School-wide Learning
Expectations, which reflect the school's mission and philosophy
Content Standard 4: Students
will give evidence of personal spiritual formation.
Student Performance Standards -
Students will demonstrate:
- A clear understanding of Catholic
identity
- The twelve fruits of the Holy
Spirit are: charity, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, generosity,
gentleness, faithfulness, modesty, self-control, and chastity. The Holy
Spirit shapes these in us (1821). Gal 5:22-23
- A practice of the Faith in their
daily lives at school, home, and in the community
- The saints show us how to
live and how to become holy (2030). Gal 6:2
Content Standard 5: Students
will participate in service projects, which reflect application of the principles
of their Faith.
Student Performance Standards -
Students will demonstrate:
- An understanding that the purpose
of service is a call to discipleship
- Jesus is the Good Shepherd
who laid down his life for all. We are called to do the same. John 10:1-18
- Reflection upon experiences of
service
- Our response to God's love
is to love one another (1970). John 15:11
- An understanding that service
is of Catholic action within the community
- Jesus has given us his new
commandment to love one another as he has loved us (1970). John 15:12
Content Standard 6: Students
will demonstrate acceptance of the challenge to address contemporary issues
from a Gospel perspective and from the documents, which form the Church's social
teaching.
Student Performance Standards - Students
will demonstrate:
- Recognition and celebration of
cultural differences within the school community
- The mission of Christian communities
is to invite all people to share in the communal love of the Father and
the Son and the Holy Spirit (850). Mt 28:18-20
- A compassionate response to misfortunes
of others
- Caring for the least among
us is caring for the Lord. Mt 25:40
- Knowledge and understanding of
the social justice teachings of the Church
- We are our sister's/brother's
keeper. In God's eyes we are interconnected and responsible for one another.
Gen 1-11
- A spirit of reconciliation and
commitment to conflict resolution
- There are four human virtues,
which play a central role and are called "cardinal" virtues.
These virtues are prudence, justice, fortitude, and temperance (1804-1809).
Wisdom 8:7
- Examination of various ministries
within the Church
- Lay people are called to be
witnesses to Christ in all circumstances and at the very heart of the
community of mankind (942)
- Living in a socially responsible
way
- Be an influence and a witness
in the decaying, dark corners of our world. Mt 5:13-16
- Sensitivity to the needs of the
poor and marginalized
- Spend time with those people
living on the margins of society. Luke 15:1, 2
