Grade 5
Content Standard 1: Students
will demonstrate evidence of their membership in a community of Faith.
Student Performance Standards -
Students will demonstrate:
- An attitude of respect for the
dignity of each individual
- The dignity of the human person
flows from belongs created in the image and likeness of God (1700)
- Knowledge and practice of Gospel
values
- Sacred Scripture is God's
word and, therefore, whatever God tells us must be true (105-108). 2 Pt
1:19-21
- Participation in prayer experiences,
community service projects and spiritual formation activities
- Jesus taught us to pray by
the way he prayed (2607-2615). Mk 1:15
- An understanding and practice
of evangelization
- The church is a community
of loving disciples called to transform the World according to the mind
and heart of Jesus Christ (425). Phil 2:1-11
Content Standard 2: Students
will demonstrate evidence of regular and frequent prayer and participation in
liturgical celebrations.
Student Performance Standards -
Students will demonstrate:
- Participation in traditional Catholic
devotions, including daily prayer
- The sacramental life of the
church was prefigured in the Old Testament. The liturgy of the church
has retained and adopted many elements of worship found in the Old Covenant
(1093). Genesis 9:8-16
- Membership in a worshiping community
- All people are inherently
drawn to God because God created them and has written this very desire
in every human heart (27). Genesis 1:26-27
- Understanding of the liturgical
year
- The church, especially during
Advent, Lent, and the Easter Triduum recalls, remembers and relives in
her liturgy the great salvation events of the sacred Scriptures (1095).
Luke 24:44-45
- Knowledge and understanding of
the sacraments
- Sacraments are powerful actions
of the Holy Spirit at work in the church, the body of Christ (1113-1116).

- Recent celebration of the Eucharist
- The Lord invites us to receive
his body and blood in the Eucharist (1384). John 6:53
Content Standard 3: Students
will demonstrate knowledge and understanding of the Catholic Christian message.
Student Performance Standards -
Students will:
- Meet the School-wide Learning
Expectations, which reflect the school's mission and philosophy
Content Standard 4: Students
will give evidence of personal spiritual formation.
Student Performance Standards -
Students will demonstrate:
- A clear understanding of Catholic
identity
- The pope and the bishops in
communion with Christ, teach the faithful truth to believe, charity to
practice, and blessings to be hoped for (2034).
- A practice of the Faith in their
daily lives at school, home, and in the community
- Faithful proclamation of the
Gospel message requires the authentic witness of Christian life (2044).
Content Standard 5: Students
will participate in service projects, which reflect application of the principles
of their Faith.
Student Performance Standards -
Students will demonstrate:
- An understanding that the purpose
of service is a call to discipleship
- We are called to acknowledge
the sacredness of all human life (2258) Ex 20:1
- Reflection upon experiences of
service
- Respect for human persons
emanates from the rights of one's dignity as a creation of God (1930)

- An understanding that service
is of Catholic action within the community
- Combine prayer with action.

Content Standard 6: Students
will demonstrate acceptance of the challenge to address contemporary issues
from a Gospel perspective and from the documents, which form the Church's social
teaching.
Student Performance Standards -
Students will demonstrate:
- Recognition and celebration of
cultural differences within the school community
- In the church we celebrate
our unity in diversity. The church engages the unity of faith of God's
people amidst the diversity among the many cultures and gifts (814-815).
Gal 3:27-29
- A compassionate response to misfortunes
of others
- We have a duty to redress
the wrongs suffered by others. Luke 10:29-37
- Knowledge and understanding of
the social justice teachings of the Church
- Social justice is only achieved
and recognized through respect for the dignity of the human person (1929).
- A spirit of reconciliation and
commitment to conflict resolution
- Turn your cheek. Give your

- Examination of various ministries
within the Church
- Lay people are called to be
witnesses to Christ in all circumstances and at the very heart of the
community of mankind (942)
- Living in a socially responsible
way
- Living in the Kingdom of God
means humbly attending to others needs. John 13:1-15
- Sensitivity to the needs of the
poor and marginalized
- Care for those most vulnerable.
