Grade 6
Content Standard 1: Students
will demonstrate evidence of their membership in a community of Faith.
Student Performance Standards -
Students will demonstrate:
- An attitude of respect for the
dignity of each individual
- Being made in the image and
likeness of God is the foundation for the dignity of the human person
(357). Genesis 1:26
- Knowledge and practice of Gospel
values
- "Sacred Scripture must
be read and interpreted" with its divine authorship in mind (Dei
Verbum 23,3) (111). Ps 103
- Participation in prayer experiences,
community service projects and spiritual formation activities
- By virtue of God's relationship
with every living creature, God always calls us to prayer (2569).
- An understanding and practice
of evangelization
- The mission of the prophets
was to call God's people to conversion and teach them to hope for salvation
(2581). Is 2-5
Content Standard 2: Students
will demonstrate evidence of regular and frequent prayer and participation in
liturgical celebrations.
Student Performance Standards -
Students will demonstrate:
- Participation in traditional Catholic
devotions, including daily prayer
- All prayer is everywhere and
always connected with and involves participation in the life of the church
(2655). Mt 6:
- Membership in a worshiping community
- Sanctifying, building up the
body of Christ, and giving worship to God are the purposes of the sacraments
(1123).
- Understanding of the liturgical
year
- Throughout the liturgical
year the church unfolds the paschal mystery of Christ (1168-1171).
- Knowledge and understanding of
the sacraments
- The sacraments are outward
signs perceptible to the human senses. Through the power and the actions
of the Holy Spirit they are the actions of Jesus and they effect what
they signify (1084).
- Recent celebration of the Eucharist
- The Eucharist is the primary
prayer of the church. All other sacraments, ministries, and works of the
church are oriented toward the Eucharist (1324) 1Cor 11:23-26
Content Standard 3: Students
will demonstrate knowledge and understanding of the Catholic Christian message.

Students will:
- Meet the School-wide Learning
Expectations, which reflect the school's mission and philosophy
Content Standard 4: Students
will give evidence of personal spiritual formation.
Student Performance Standards -
Students will demonstrate:
- A clear understanding of Catholic
identity
- A shared vocabulary of faith
unique to Catholic Christians provides a context for experiencing and
expressing Catholic identity (170-171) Dt 11:18-2
- A practice of the Faith in their
daily lives at school, home, and in the community
- Catholic church history is
the story of the pilgrim people of God and their journey of faith through
the ages (758-769)
Content Standard 5: Students
will participate in service projects, which reflect application of the principles
of their Faith.
Student Performance Standards -
Students will demonstrate:
- An understanding that the purpose
of service is a call to discipleship
- The church is a community
of loving disciples called to transform the world according to the mind
and heart of Jesus Christ (425). Phil 2:1-11
- Reflection upon experiences of
service
- The Father anointed Jesus
with the Holy Spirit to be priest, prophet, and king. The whole church
takes part in these offices of priest, prophet and king and also assumes
responsibility for their inherent service and ministry (783)
- An understanding that service
is of Catholic action within the community
- Christ empowers us to continue
his mission through the Holy Spirit. John 14:10-17
Content Standard 6: Students
will demonstrate acceptance of the challenge to address contemporary issues
from a Gospel perspective and from the documents, which form the Church's social
teaching.
Student Performance Standards -
Students will demonstrate:
- Recognition and celebration of
cultural differences within the school community
- God's family includes all
races, languages, and differences (1934-1938). Mt 24:40
- A compassionate response to misfortunes
of others
- Christianity's appeal lays
in the way we value and live justice; reordering a society which shares
everything for the common good. Acts 2:43-47
- Knowledge and understanding of
the social justice teachings of the Church
- Social justice is only achieved
and recognized through respect for the dignity of the human person (1929)
- A spirit of reconciliation and
commitment to conflict resolution
- All of God's laws are summarized
in two great commandments of love of God and love of neighbor. Mark 10:17
- Examination of various ministries
within the Church
- Lay people are called to be
witnesses to Christ in all circumstances and at the very heart of the
community of mankind (942)
- Living in a socially responsible
way
- The common good requires three
elements: respect for the human person, concern for the well-being and
development of a group of people, and dedication to peace (1906-1909)
- Sensitivity to the needs of the
poor and marginalized
- The church has a special love
of the poor, among whom we find the presence of Christ. Social justice
compels one to give preferential option to the poor (2443-2449). Luke
